Explaining the Real-Time Web in 100 Words or Less
Written by Marshall Kirkpatrick / September 22, 2009 1:23 PM / 9 CommentsHere's a challenge - can you explain the phenomenon of the Real-Time Web in simple terms and few words? From Facebook to the New York Times to blogs and geeky tech infrastructure, it seems like everyone's exploring the Real-Time Web paradigm these days. It's not easy to explain, though.
Below we offer our working explanation of what the real-time web is and why it's important, in exactly 100 words. We challenge you to offer a better (short) explanation.

On October 15, in Mountain View California, ReadWriteWeb is bringing together industry leaders of the Real-Time Web - from social networks, financial services, media, nonprofit groups, and more. We already have people from Google, Facebook, Yahoo, MySpace and The New York Times signed up. At the Summit we'll discuss:
- The state of the art, science and business of the Real-Time Web;
- Efforts to create standards and interoperability;
- Challenges in user experience, technology and monetization.

Event Format
The ReadWrite Real-Time Web Summit will be made up of a smart and diverse group of people. Together we will discuss the key questions, in the process creating a final agenda on-site - and in real-time! The Real-Time Web is changing so fast that no predetermined agenda of talking heads on stage can do it justice.
A new web requires new thinking. This won't be your average event, it will be very participatory and the networking will be highly charged. Learn more about the event's format.
We're excited to be co-producing this event with Kaliya Hamlin, a facilitator with years of experience drawing the best knowledge from groups of people working together.
We don't claim to have all the answers about an emerging era of technology - we want you to come, learn, collaborate, and move the industry forward with us.
